1. Video I watched this week that was eye-opening…
As we roll into fall, everything pumpkin is starting to show up. Starbucks has introduced three new pumpkin drinks. What people do not realize is how much sugar is in these drinks. Their Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino has a terrifying 65 grams of total sugar. That is 16 teaspoons of sugar!!! This is an absolutely TERRIBLE way to start your day. Sugar is pretty much public enemy #1, as it is linked to so many health issues. Sugar is one of the first things I look at when looking at any food label. Cut down your sugar intake, and you will feel better, sleep better, have less aches and pains, have a stronger immune system, and you’ll lose weight. Watch this quick video showing how much sugar is in these. The visual really makes an impact.
2. Docuseries we finished this week…
There is a new 4-part docuseries on Netflix called How To Change Your Mind. It is based on the book by the same name by best-selling author, Michael Pollan. It takes a deeper dive into psychedelics and the potential health benefits they could offer. Very well done, very informative, and something I think most people should see. Why? Because, like me, you probably have misperceptions, faulty beliefs, and inaccurate ideas about things like psilocybin (magic mushrooms), LSD, MDMA (a.k.a. Ecstasy), and mescaline. Finally, there is a reemergence of attention on the positive impact these can have on conditions like depression, OCD, anxiety, and other serious mental illnesses. Mental illness is skyrocketing these days, and current treatments are failing. I see great opportunity here. I’m excited to see high-level doctors and scientists pursuing research at prestigious hospitals and universities. My biggest concern? Big Pharma. These psychedelics threaten their profits, which means they will do anything to stifle their mainstream use. They are cost-effective, can’t be patented, and in many cases are one-and-done in regards to treatment. So even if Big Pharma can get some control over these, they don’t produce the long-term, heavy profits that the dangerous, lifetime drugs do. I am hopeful that this new light on these psychedelics opens the eyes of the people who could use them and really need them. This docuseries really rocked many beliefs that I had that were completely false. Check out the trailer below…
3. Quote I love (about self-worth)…
“An ocean of bliss may rain down from the heavens, but if you hold up only a thimble, that is all you receive.” -Ramakrishna
