1. News story that made me think…
You might have seen this story about a property in Tennessee in the middle of a huge flooded area. It was reported by The Weather Channel. In the middle of miles and miles of completely flooded land, one property sits perfectly dry and protected. It is a very cool sight to see. Some might reflexively say… “Wow, they’re lucky!” Nope! They prepared. They knew there was a risk of flooding (probably had been hit before), they came up with a plan, and they invested time, money, and energy into building levees. It made me think about health. You know sickness and disease are a risk (8 out of 10 Americans have at least one chronic illness), you need to come up with a plan (how to eat, move, sleep, and think like a healthier human), and you need to invest time, money, and energy in caring for your body (gym memberships, personal trainers, organic foods, chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, etc.). I want to be like that property… safe and secure… even when all hell is breaking loose around me. The video below is absolutely amazing and is a perfect metaphor for making health a priority, and it had very little to do with luck. DO NOT WAIT FOR A CRISIS!!! Start building your levee (health) TODAY!
2. Great website I found this week…
There is a website, Explore.org, that features almost 100 live stream nature cams. It’s wild! (Pun intended!) You can watch live-feed video of African watering holes, eagles’ nests, oceans, gorillas, puppies, and so much more. It’s a fascinating concept and allows us into multiple worlds that we otherwise might never get to experience. Nature documentaries are great, but there is something special and connecting about watching these scenes live, in real-time. Be forewarned… you’ll get roped in to watching multiple cams, so plan on getting stuck on this site for some time. Check out the intro video below from Explore.org explaining their mission (2.5 minutes).
3. Quote I saw this week… and loved…
“You either get paid for the decisions you made years ago, or you pay for the decisions you made years ago… The choice is yours.”
